Smokestack Relics April 18, 2017 | New Roxy

Smokestack RelicsSmokestack Relics can only be defined as a dirty swamp rock band. The two brothers from Denver, Colorado, sing about livin’, lovin’, dyin’ and the hell down below. The band is stripped down to her bare essentials creating a raw roots feel. When they’re not playing in their home state you may find them playing throughout the grand ol’ South and Midwest, scrapin up enough cash to make it to the next show with coffee and cigarettes in hand.

How’s that for an intro to Juke Joint Festival week?  We are excited to welcome the Smokestack Relics for the first time to the New Roxy theater.  Their gritty, swampy wound fits right into the delta scene and are looking forward to them being part of the furniture around here.  You know how hectic downtown Clarksdale can be as festival week rolls in, so hype yourself up with a show at the New Roxy! Though they are just a band of two, their show promises to be charged with high energy with the full sound of real, deep, blues. You can brush up on their tunes on their ReverbNation link here. For video footage, click here.  Get to know your artists circling for Juke Joint Festival!

Friday, April 21st, 2017Thacker Mountain Radio: Juke Joint Festival Edition returns for the second year in a row! If you were with us last year, you know how magical this event was.  The room filled with listeners for a live taping of MPB’s Thacker Mountain Radio Hour featuring the Yalobushwackers and their local guests.  We can’t quite tell you who will be performing on this year’s show, but stay tuned here and to our Facebook page for details as they are released. The taping is from 6-7pm so make sure to get in early and claim a good spot.  There is seating available, but you’re more than welcome to bring your own festival chair for your mobile convenience and comfort!
