LINEUP ANNOUNCEMENT 1:
The first round of artists were just announced on the Deep Blues Festival website! Coming to Clarksdale in October (12-15) 2017 is one fine lineup already. It is shaping up to be one spectacular weekend. The two main nighttime venues are the New Roxy and out at the Shack Up Inn.
Tickets go on sale April 1, 2017 in the shop at www.deepbluesfest.com for a cost of $75 for the whole weekend. Weekend passes get you into the shows at the New Roxy and the Shack Up Inn. *Note that other juke joints may have a separate cover. You can also become a benefactor and support the festival from the ground up! Benefactors’ perks include:
- 1st dibs on booking accommodation at the Shack Up Inn as of April 1, 2017
- Exclusive access to the Benefactors’ Ball, an event just to show you how much we appreciate your support.
The artists on the bill so far cover a range of #realdeepblues from gospel to rockabilly and everything in between. Leo “Bud” Welch arrived on the blues scene from the gospel world, releasing his first record on Fat Possum at the tender age of 81. There are straight up knock down hill country blues greats R.L. Boyce and Kenny Brown.
Plus, we have cross-genre troubadours Jimbo Mathus and Dex Romweber. Leaving no stone unturned, Mathus and Romweber have each covered much musical ground including surf, swing, punk, garage, psych, blues and rockabilly. Intrigued? We are giddy with anticipation. And this is just the first round of lineup announcements! You can find out more about these artists as they release artists profiles on the Deep Blues Festival site.
The schedule is yet to be finalized, so we don’t know who we have at the New Roxy as of yet, but we can assure you – it will be solid! We will be shuttling back and forth to the Juke Joint Chapel at the Shack Up Inn to catch all of the acts over three nights and 4 days. Keep in mind that there is also plenty of participating stages in juke joints, restaurants, clubs, and street stages.
Shacksdale, out at the Shack Up Inn will feature a ton of free daytime music from somewhere around midday to sundown when the New Roxy and the Shack Up Inn fire up. There is street busking in front of Cat Head Detla Blues and Folk Art and other partners around downtown Clarksdale.
Keep an eye on the Deep Blues festival site for more lineup announcements and schedules. We will keep you up to date here and on Facebook on all things Deep Blues as well. Don’t forget to mark your calendars: April 1, 2017 is when the weekend passes go on sale! And rumor has it: Benefactors Have More Fun.
We look forward blowing the roof off the New Roxy for another Deep Blues Festival…oh wait, we don’t have one.
