THIS WEEK AT THE NEW ROXY: Tiki Thursday and MAG FEST III

We are dusting ourselves off, shaking off the winter chill, and shaking our tail feathers at the New Roxy this week! The beginning of this week came in cold but we are heating things up in the second half.

March 2017 eventsFirst up TONIGHT, Thursday March 16th, is another Tiki Thursday! This means we open the doors at 6pm, there is no cover, there is cold beer, and there is fine company.  We do have the capability to host OPEN MIC as well, so come on down and share a few songs with us! We have microphones and DIs, so all you need is an instrument and a song to sing.  The front stage at the New Roxy is an intimate covered area in the bar area so you are protected from the elements.

Next up, TOMORROW, Friday, March 17th is well, St. Patrick’s Day! It is also the day of MAG FEST III: The O’Magnussons’ St. Paddy’s Day Party.  Mag Fest III smallDoors open at 7pm, and music starts at 7:30pm.  Lucious Spiller kicks off the night until 9:30, and then the hill country legend, Kenny Brown takes the stage! This is a night not to be forgotten soon with that lineup.

There is another reason all these shenanigans are taking place and we’d like to take this moment to wish a happy 60th birthday to Drew Magnusson! He is the older brother of Clarksdale resident, John Magnusson, man-about-town.  As each of the 6 (six!) brothers from New Jersey turns 60, they convene at the New Roxy in Clarksdale, MS, for a big ol’ bash – and we all get to be a part of it!

This year the celebrations just happen to land on St. Patrick’s Day, which is quite fitting for these lads of Irish descent.  Join us for music and a barrel of laughs!

Looking forward: Juke Joint is right around the corner! We are finalising the lineup for the week, and will be announcing the festival shows in the coming days so stay tuned to our NEW tab and Facebook page for updates!

So far we can tell you that we will be open from Tuesday, April 18th, with a show from Smokestack Relics.  These brothers from Colorado are heavy with grit and charm, very deep blues indeed.  On Wednesday, April 19th, we welcome back former Clarksdalian songbird, Krista Shows.

The New Roxy will host her debut album launch – and we couldn’t be more proud to usher her to the stage in celebration.  Her rich, smoky, voice carries the poignancy of her words directly from a place deep in her soul to a tender place in your heart.  On Friday, April 21st, we host Thacker Mountain Radio Hour once again!

Last year’s live taping was so much fun, and such an impressive show of talent (them) and support (y’all) , that they will grace us again.  Be part of the audience for a live taping to be broadcast on MPB sometime in May 2017. This event is FREE and the taping is from 6-7pm, so don’t be late!

See y’all this week at 363 Issaquena in downtown Clarksdale!
